Keeping it cool

Dan installing new venting behind the settee

Just a quick update this week. We've been out of the water for 2 weeks now, "on the hard" in boater language. Dan has been working through the project list. First up he tackled installation of the air conditioning unit in the main salon.

The new AC unit in place

To do the AC project, EVERYTHING had to be out of the cabinets on the port side. I'm amazed at how fast he worked through this considering there was no instruction book. He had only seen a similar install on a sister ship about 3 months ago. He had to cut 6 holes in the fiberglass/bulkheads/panels to make this install work. The end product looks amazing. Unfortunately we won't be able to run it or test it until Okisollo is back in the water. It uses the sea water to operate.

Puerto Penasco is dusty. 1/2 of the streets it our neighborhood are not paved and are basically sand. So when the wind blows, the sand just blows around and gets into everything. We have to lock up the hatches on the boat in the evening, which is marginally successful in keeping the sand and dust out. Our apartment is a 10-15 min walk from the boat yard.

It is very comfortable, but as one might expect somedays the internet doesn't work, somedays the power is out, somedays the water is off. But it always seems to magically come back on. Its not really a problem. There is a veggie market a few blocks away. It is funny that in the mornings, we laugh about going 'to the office'. We've been working 7-5 since we got here. There are 6 families living in this little compound. We have a 2nd floor 1-bedroom apartment with a small kitchen. There is a laundry machine that we all share.

Meanwhile, while Dan has been tearing apart the interior of the boat I headed up to Tucson, with the original plan of being here for 4 days. Those of you reading this that have boats, know that sometimes when major boat projects are in flight that it is best for the one NOT doing the project to just get out of the way. This was definitely one of those moments. Here in Tucson, I've been collecting mail, working on things that don't require being on a boat and have had some time to hang out with Dylan -- all while awaiting some maintenance work on our car. Best laid plans! Currently the car is in the shop with a new timeline of 'we've ordered parts so it could be a week???' so.......I've extended my stay and will make the most of it. I'm not complaining. I've got a pool and plenty to do. Onward!

Mail pick up #2

Lots of spring wildlife in Tucson too!
