if you've ever owned you a boat, you may be familiar with stating the price in 'boat units'. Something that costs $1000, that is equal to 1 boat unit. There is something about using smaller increments that just makes you not feel so horribly awful at the insane expense of everything.
It is Seattle Boat show week and its been marked on the calendar for months. For us it is an annual event and in years when we have big projects on the docket or big purchases we wait until we can see what special deals we might find. This year the plan was to get our liferaft during the boat show. I find this the hardest possible purchase. It is a huge investment and something you NEVER want to use. But.... if you ever do become in need of one -- you are going to want the nicest, fanciest, most tested, warmest, driest, shark proof floating rubber raft you can find. And as they say, you get what you pay for. I wanted to look the sales guy in the eye (thank you John) and ask -- "is this going to save my life if I need my life saved?" After debating and debating...I finally decided on make, model, size, canister and we'll soon be the proud new owners of a ~6x8' rubber raft, with multiple windows an insulated floor and hole in the roof that catches rain water. We are living the high life now and consequently down a handful of boat units. At least I feel safe. Thank you seattle boat show. As usual, you came through.
